If you're a Swansea business owner looking for a new website, the short answer is: there isn't one standard price.

In 2026 you can find simple sites for a few hundred pounds, small-business websites for around £400–£2,500, and more complex or bespoke projects that run into several thousand. The more useful question is what you're paying for — and whether the site will actually help people find you, trust you, and get in touch.

At a glance

Website type Typical price What you might get
One-page / basic site £199+ A simple online presence
Small brochure website £399–£900+ 4–5 pages of basic business information
Professional small-business website £675–£1,800+ More planning, design and functionality
Bespoke / complex website £1,800+ Custom functionality and larger structures
Website + ongoing local SEO £195/month New 3–5 page site, hosting, support, maintenance and local SEO

These are indicative ranges based on current published Swansea pricing, not official market averages. Individual quotes can sit outside them.

A website that looks good but gets little relevant traffic may contribute very little to the business. That's why I built the website and SEO package around both sides of the problem: getting the site live at an affordable monthly cost, then working on the local SEO that helps potential customers find it.

The current package is £195 per month with no upfront build fee. It includes a new 3–5 page website, hosting, support, maintenance and local SEO.

Typical website costs in Swansea in 2026

There is a wide range of pricing in the Swansea market. Current published examples include:

Provider Published starting / example price
Smart Website Designers £199 for a one-page site, £499 for five pages
Fynentro Digital £399 for a 4–5 page website
WebDev Wales £675 + VAT for custom-coded sites
Direct First £689 for a four-page brochure website
SEO Swansea £195/month for website + local SEO

These examples show why “the cost of a website” is difficult to reduce to one number. The scope varies significantly between providers. A £400 website and a £2,000 website may both have five pages, but they can involve very different amounts of strategy, copywriting, design, SEO, technical work and ongoing support.

If you want the commercial offer rather than the market context, start with website design in Swansea or the full pricing page.

One-page and basic brochure websites

A one-page site might include:

  • A short introduction to the business
  • Your main services
  • Areas you cover
  • Reviews or trust signals
  • Contact details
  • A phone or enquiry button
  • A simple contact form

You might find prices from around £199 upwards for this type of work, depending on who builds it and what's included. It can work well for a sole trader, new business or service provider with a very simple offer.

There's an important limitation: a single page gives you much less room to target different services and customer needs.

Imagine you are a plumber serving Swansea. A single page might explain that you offer plumbing, boiler work, emergency callouts and bathroom installations. A properly structured site could instead have separate pages for:

  • Plumbing services
  • Boiler repairs
  • Emergency plumbing
  • Bathroom installations
  • Contact

Those pages give you more opportunities to answer specific questions and match specific searches — the same idea behind the website SEO checklist and the local SEO and website design blueprint.

Small-business websites, typically 3–10 pages

This is where many Swansea businesses will sit.

A typical small-business website might include:

  • Home
  • About
  • Services
  • Two or more dedicated service pages
  • Areas served
  • Contact

Depending on the provider, you may see prices from roughly £500 to £2,500 or more. Published Swansea examples show just how much variation there is: £399 for a 4–5 page site, £499 for five pages, £675 + VAT for a custom-coded site, and £689 for a four-page brochure site.

Why such a large range? Because “five-page website” doesn't describe the work involved.

A five-page template that you populate yourself is very different from a five-page website where someone researches your customers, plans the structure, writes the copy, designs the pages, optimises them for search, sets up tracking and manages the technical side. That second version is much closer to how I approach website design for local businesses.

Bespoke websites and more complex builds

Once you need more functionality, pricing moves upwards. Examples might include:

  • Bespoke design and development
  • Membership areas
  • Booking systems
  • Customer portals
  • Integrations with other software
  • Advanced forms
  • Multiple locations
  • Large service libraries
  • Custom content management
  • Complex animations or interactive features

These projects can easily reach several thousand pounds. Current Swansea examples include professional builds at £1,350 + VAT and standard small-business work around £800–£2,500, with complex projects going higher.

At this level, define exactly what the project needs. Complexity should solve a business problem. If you don't need a booking system or customer portal, don't pay to build one. For larger programmes, comprehensive SEO or a custom quote is usually a better fit than a small-business package.

E-commerce websites

Selling online introduces another layer of cost.

An e-commerce website may need product pages, categories, basket and checkout, payment processing, delivery options, stock management, customer accounts and analytics.

A small online shop can start at a few thousand pounds, while a larger or highly customised project can cost substantially more. You also need to consider platform fees, payment processing, apps or plugins, hosting and maintenance.

The £195/month package is not an e-commerce build. If you need a shop, say so early so you're comparing the right kind of quote.

Don't forget the ongoing website costs

The build price is only one part of the cost. You may also pay for:

Domain name

Your domain is your web address, such as yourbusiness.co.uk. A .co.uk domain is generally inexpensive, but the exact price depends on the registrar and any additional services. Confirm who owns it.

Hosting

Hosting is what keeps your website available online. Some web designers include hosting for a period of time. Others charge separately, often as a monthly or annual fee.

Maintenance

A website needs updates. That might include:

  • Software updates
  • Security updates
  • Backups
  • Broken-link checks
  • Plugin updates
  • Technical fixes
  • Small content changes

Some businesses manage this themselves. Others prefer a maintenance plan.

Content

If you need new service pages, blog posts, photography or video, those may be separate costs. Ongoing content marketing is a different job from the initial build.

SEO

This is particularly important if your reason for building a website is to attract people from Google.

A website can be technically well built and still struggle to generate organic traffic if nobody has planned the search strategy, service pages, internal links and ongoing content. Ask whether SEO is included in your quote, and exactly what “SEO” means in that context — local SEO and Google Business Profile work are not the same as ticking a box for page titles.

What makes a website more expensive?

The biggest price differences usually come from the amount of work involved rather than the number of pages alone.

Custom design, content creation, functionality, SEO, photography, branding and ongoing support can all increase the cost. A five-page website can therefore be much more involved than another five-page website.

Cheap website vs a website designed to generate enquiries

A cheap website isn't automatically a bad website.

If you need a simple online brochure and already have a reliable way of generating customers, a low-cost site may be enough.

The risk comes when you buy a cheap website because you want more business, then discover that the site was never built to attract the people you want to reach.

If nobody finds it through Google, if the pages don't match what people search for, or if visitors arrive and don't know what to do next, the initial saving may not mean much. That's the conversion problem in why your website isn't getting enquiries.

Think about the economics. If a £500 website generates no relevant enquiries, its value to your business may be close to zero. A more expensive website isn't automatically better, either. What matters is whether the money goes into the things that help the site perform.

For a local business, that usually means:

  1. Being discoverable. Your pages need to target the services and locations that matter to your business.
  2. Being useful. Visitors should quickly understand what you do and whether you can help them.
  3. Building trust. Reviews, experience, clear information and evidence of your work can reduce hesitation.
  4. Making contact easy. Your phone number, enquiry form or booking route should be obvious.
  5. Improving over time. Local SEO needs ongoing work rather than a one-off tick-box exercise.

That's the thinking behind the £195/month website and SEO package.

I don't sell the website as a standalone design exercise. I build a focused 3–5 page website, structure the pages around local search, set up local SEO and Google Business Profile work, then continue with updates and optimisation. It is a focused offer for smaller local businesses. If you need a large e-commerce site, a booking platform, multiple locations or a much larger content programme, you may need a different approach.

The important lesson is not “spend more on your website”. It is “make sure your website budget solves the problem you actually have”. If your problem is that nobody can find your business, paying for design alone won't solve it.

Is paying monthly cheaper?

It can be, depending on what you're comparing.

A monthly package spreads the cost instead of requiring a large upfront payment. But don't compare £195 per month with a £1,500 one-off website without looking at the services attached to each.

I currently offer the website and local SEO package for £195 per month with no setup fee. It includes a new 3–5 page website, hosting, support and maintenance, plus local SEO. Because there is no upfront build fee, the plan runs on a 12-month minimum term — that's also roughly how long SEO needs to start compounding properly. Full detail is on the package page and pricing.

If you already have a website you manage, local SEO is available separately from £145 per month.

This model is designed for small local businesses that want the website and ongoing local SEO handled together. It isn't positioned as a solution for complex e-commerce or every type of website project.

If you're comparing monthly offers, check:

  • The minimum term
  • What happens if you cancel
  • Whether you own the domain
  • Whether you own the website
  • What pages are included
  • Whether SEO is included — and how much ongoing work is actually done
  • Whether hosting and maintenance are included
  • Whether you can request changes
  • What happens to the site if the agreement ends

How much should you budget for a Swansea business website?

For many small local businesses, a sensible starting point is to think in terms of the job the website needs to do.

  1. If you only need a basic online presence, you may find suitable options below £1,000.
  2. If you need a professionally planned small-business website with several service pages and SEO foundations, you may be looking at roughly £1,000–£2,500 or more — or a monthly package that includes the ongoing search work.
  3. If you need e-commerce, custom functionality or a larger content structure, several thousand pounds is more realistic.

The cheapest quote isn't necessarily the best fit, and the most expensive quote isn't automatically the best fit either. Compare the scope, ownership, support, SEO and expected role of the website.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website cost in Swansea?

Published Swansea prices currently range from a few hundred pounds for simple sites to several thousand for more complex websites. A small-business website often falls around £500–£2,500, depending on the design, content, functionality and SEO included. Monthly packages are another option — mine is £195/month for a new 3–5 page site with hosting, support and local SEO.

How much should a small business website cost?

For a straightforward small-business website, you may find prices from around £500 upwards. A more involved professionally planned website can cost £1,000–£2,500 or more. Compare what is included rather than looking only at the headline price.

What does a website cost per month?

Monthly website plans vary considerably. Some cover hosting and maintenance only, while others include the website build, support and SEO. I currently offer the website and local SEO package at £195/month with no setup fee, on a 12-month minimum term.

Is SEO included in web design?

Sometimes. Sometimes it isn't.

“SEO included” can mean anything from basic page titles and technical setup to ongoing keyword research, content, local SEO and Google Business Profile optimisation. Ask the provider to explain exactly what they mean.

Is it cheaper to pay monthly for a website?

A monthly plan can reduce the upfront cost, but it isn't automatically cheaper overall. Compare the total cost, contract length, ownership and services included.

Do I need a five-page website?

Not necessarily.

The right size depends on your business. A very simple business may only need a few pages. A business with several important services may benefit from separate service pages. Build the site around your customers and the information they need, rather than aiming for a particular page count.

Who owns the website if I pay monthly?

That depends on the contract. Ask in writing who owns the domain, who owns the site, and what happens if you stop paying or want to leave. Those questions matter more on a monthly package than on a one-off build.
